Weather in Spain: the next days
The weather outlook for Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands, updated every afternoon.
Today · Monday 19 October
Torrential rain and storms in the east, south and the Balearic Islands
On Monday 19 unstable conditions will persist across much of Spain as the cut-off low Adam remains active. The most dangerous downpours are expected overnight and in the morning in the Valencia region, the southeast coast and the Balearic Islands, then shifting towards Andalusia and Catalonia later in the day.
Watch for: Torrential rainSevere thunderstormsStrong gustsFogLight frost
Full forecast
Monday 19 will remain unsettled across mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, with very cloudy or overcast skies in many areas. The clearest exception will be the north coast (Bay of Biscay coast), where conditions will be brighter with less cloud. The worst conditions will be focused on the Mediterranean strip and the south. During the early hours and into the morning of Monday 19 very heavy or even torrential downpours and thunderstorms are expected in the Valencia region, the southeast coast and the Balearic Islands, with significant accumulations in short periods. In Mallorca very strong gusts are also possible. As the day progresses, rainfall should ease in those areas while the instability shifts towards Catalonia, where strong to very heavy, and in some places persistent, rain and thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon. Strong showers with thunder are also likely from early on in Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla. Rain is possible elsewhere on the peninsula too, though generally less intense. Moderate precipitation is expected along the Asturian coast, across both plateaus, in Aragon and Navarra. In the Canary Islands spells of cloud with scattered showers will predominate, although on El Hierro rain could be heavy and persistent. Early on Monday 19 fog banks may form in mountain areas of the northern and southern peninsula, with mist also likely in the southeast and other Mediterranean zones. Minimum temperatures will fall quite broadly while daytime highs rise in the east, central areas and the Balearics, and fall elsewhere on the peninsula and in the Canary Islands. Weak frost cannot be ruled out in mountains of the northern half. Winds will blow from the north and east across the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, strongest along coasts early on and tending to ease; in the Canary Islands the trade wind will be moderate to start, then easing later in the day.
Tomorrow · Tuesday 20 October
Heavy early-morning rain in the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, then more settled
Tuesday should improve across much of Spain, although the early hours may still bring intense storms and heavy showers in the Balearic Islands and Catalonia. Heavy rain is also possible on El Hierro. The north will be cloudier, temperatures will fall in many areas and light frost is possible on high ground and in the northern interior.

Full forecast
On Tuesday Spain will gradually leave the most unsettled weather behind and, overall, conditions will become quieter as the day progresses. Nevertheless, during the early hours there may still be storms and heavy downpours — locally very heavy and persistent — across the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, with less intense rain elsewhere in the east and the interior. These showers should generally weaken and die away as the day goes on. Across the mainland and the Balearics expect spells of cloud with a tendency for clearer skies to develop in many areas during the day. The north will be the exception, remaining rather cloudy for most of the day. In the afternoon cloud will build over the mountains and showers are likely in the Pyrenees and, more scattered, over the Baetic ranges, around the Strait of Gibraltar and the Iberian System. By late evening a front will graze Galicia and bring light rain. In the Canary Islands there will be periods of cloud with scattered showers on several islands, while El Hierro looks most at risk of heavy, persistent rain. Morning mist can form in mountainous areas and in some interior and Mediterranean locations. Minimum temperatures will fall quite widely, both on the mainland and over the islands, except in interior mountain areas. Maximum temperatures will rise noticeably across the eastern mainland but tend to fall elsewhere, including the Balearics. Light frost is expected in the mountains of the northern half of the country and locally in parts of Castilla y León. Winds will be westerly across the mainland and the Balearics — generally light inland and fresher on the coasts — with possible very strong gusts over the Alboran Sea and strong tramontana gusts in Girona. In the Canary Islands winds will be light from an easterly component.
Wednesday 21 October
More settled Wednesday, with light rain on the north coast and in the Canary Islands
Wednesday will be calm across most of Spain, with mostly clear skies. Only light rain is expected along the north coast, a few showers in eastern Catalonia and light precipitation on the more mountainous Canary Islands.
Watch for: Light rainStrong windLight frost
Full forecast
Wednesday will bring much more settled conditions for the majority of the country. Mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands will see plenty of clear skies, although cloudiness will be greater in the north during the morning before clearing through the afternoon. The exception is the north coast, where a front will produce cloudy to overcast skies with generally light rain. From around midday there may also be a few light showers in eastern Catalonia. In the Canary Islands the higher, more rugged islands will be cloudier with some light precipitation. Morning mist is possible in mountain areas of the north. Maximum temperatures will change little overall, though there will be a tendency to fall, especially across mountains in the northern half. Minimums will rise in the northwest and fall across most other areas, including the Balearics. In the Canary Islands, temperatures will trend upwards. Light frost is expected in some mountain areas of the northern mainland. Winds will be moderate northwesterlies across much of the mainland, with very strong gusts possible along the north coast (Bay of Biscay coast). There will also be strong cierzo gusts in the higher parts of Tarragona and Castellón, tramontana in the Empordà, mistral over the Balearic Islands and a westerly (poniente) in the south, with strong intervals over the Alboran Sea. In the Canary Islands winds will be easterly, moderate with some strong intervals.
Thursday 22 October
Settled on Thursday, strong winds along the north coast
Thursday will be mostly settled across Spain, with generally clear skies and only light rain along the north coast, in Girona and over the more mountainous parts of the Canary Islands. The main features will be strong winds on the north coast, with very strong gusts, and a few light frosts at dawn over high ground in the north.
Watch for: Strong windsRough seasLight frostsPatches of mist
Full forecast
Thursday will be broadly settled over most of the country. Mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands will see mostly clear or lightly clouded skies, although it will be cloudier along the north coast and in Girona, where light rain is possible. Low cloud may also be present early on around the Strait of Gibraltar and along some stretches of the Mediterranean coast, before a drier, more open feel spreads. In the Canary Islands there will be a mix of cloud and sunshine, with rain possible on the higher islands. Morning mist is possible in mountain areas of the north, around the Strait of Gibraltar and in Ceuta and Melilla. Maximum temperatures will fall along the Mediterranean coast and in the Balearics but will rise across much of the rest of the country, particularly along the north coast. Minimum temperatures will tend to dip slightly almost everywhere, with light frost expected on mountains in the northern half and locally in parts of Castilla y León. Winds will generally be westerly over the mainland, with more variable directions in the Mediterranean. They will be moderate over the northern plateau and the Mediterranean coast, but will strengthen along the north coast, where frequent strong spells and very strong gusts are expected. The trade wind will continue moderate in the Canary Islands.
